Meet Dick, Iris and Finnigan

Dick Cormell spent thirty plus years in the timber harvesting and lumber manufacturing industries, so it's no surprise his second career brought him back to the beauty of natural hardwood. Realizing the tremendous reserves of standing hardwood timber in Pennsylvania, he and his wife Iris decided to design and create a line of Amish handcrafted, made-in-Pennsylvania home furnishings.

A great resource to Dick and Iris are the Amish and Mennonite communities of Central Pennsylvania. Their reputation for fine workmanship and detail is the key to making the Pennsylvania hardwood furniture’s true beauty come to life. It was with this entrepreneurial spirit, love of the natural Pennsylvania hardwoods, an eye for simplistic, high-quality and affordable design along with a partnership with some of the most talented Amish woodworkers in the country that the Edelholz line was born.

To name their line of hardwood home furnishings, they looked to the area from where the Amish originally migrated and to their native flower called Edelweiss which is known as a symbol of true affection. From this "noble white" flower they created the essence of Edelholz. The name Edelholz literally means “noble wood.” Into each handcrafted piece is carved the signature Edelweiss flower and each is signed and dated by the Amish woodworker who created it.

Edelholz style is a fusion of shaker and mission aesthetics. Dick’s goal was not for the wood to accent his designs, but for his designs to accent the wood. Edelholz selects unique Pennsylvania hardwoods for their color and grain and uses no paint and very little stain to allow each piece enough character to take on a life of its own.

The Edelholz retail gallery is located in a restored Pennsylvania Dutch barn called The Point Barn in the Susquehanna River Valley. The barn maintains its agricultural heritage incorporating the Edelholz gallery of hardwood home furnishings; 15,000 square feet of unusual antiques; The Red Poppy, a floral and garden shop specializing in fresh cut flowers and unusual pieces for the garden plus unique arrangements for all occasions; as well as Adam and Eve's General Store.

Dick and Iris personally invite you to visit them at The Point Barn complex or let them ship your treasures to you or your family and friends (free of charge for most items). Dick and Iris reside in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania with their English Lab and mascot, Finnigan.
